A printed and online publication headquartered in the United Kingdom, they provide professional reviews and advice on digital art, devices and professionals working in the field. Hitting the shelves today, Computer Arts will be releasing a feature on the gentlemen of Neo-Pangea in their 'In Depth' section. They will be highlighting their distinct vintage, eclectic style, and their history and development as a digital agency outside the mainstream markets.

The gents are ecstatic to receive the recognition. The long hours and countless mustache-wax canisters have paid off. Noses constantly to the grind stone they are more than pleasantly surprised. Royal Alchemist Jason Morris could only describe his reaction as "Holy Sh*t."

The Baron of Pixels, Brett Bagenstose, seconded the motion and added, "This couldn't have come at a better time. We're in development of our largest international endeavor to date and are excited that this will be hitting the shelves before the sh*t hits the fan… and I mean sh*t in a good way".

Now it can be confirmed. From within the confines of their West Reading offices, the creative team has finally harnessed the ability to create and destroy worlds. What's worse? They're putting this enormous responsibility into the hands of people worldwide with their new "Solar System Builder."

The "Solar System Builder," designed to promote National Geographic Channel's "Known Universe" series, allows users to create an elaborate universe complete with a variety of planets with customizable masses, trajectories, and atmospheres. If you craft your universe carefully, everything will work in harmony. Planets will orbit the main star or each other – life can even develop on certain planets. If you make one mistake? Catastrophe.

However, it takes more than precise calculations for the universe to stay out of trouble. Random events like comets and asteroids can wreak havoc on otherwise peaceful planets.

Millions of virtual lives could be lost in the blink of an eye. Neo-Pangea should be ashamed.

"In working with National Geographic Channel we get the opportunity to work on a lot of really entertaining projects. But I think this is the application I've logged the most hours with personally just playing around and having fun," said Neo-Pangea's Creative Director Brett Bagenstose. "I can't decide what I want to simulate next, whether it's Hoth, Vulcan, or the Pandora system..."
Neo-Pangea's Royal Alchemist Jason Morris responded to Bagenstose's enthusiasm by yelling, "Dork alert!" He followed up this declaration by shoving Bagenstose into a locker.

Bagenstose has yet to be released.

To try the "Solar System Builder" for yourself, visit http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/channel/known-universe-interactive.

"Known Universe" can be seen Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on National Geographic Channel.

Neo-Pangea is an innovative digital agency that specializes in digital video production, Web design, 3D design, interactive experiences, and live-environment multimedia. It has created successful promotions for Fortune 100 brands across the globe such as National Geographic Channel, Comcast, and Wal-Mart. Internet users don't want to be bothered by the gratuitous excitement of animated banners," explained Chariman Dr. Charles Letchwell. "What we've been doing here at C.R.A.P.A.D.S. since 1994 is championing proven advertising methods that clearly tell the viewer where to click. No confusing rolling, just click."

The new campaign, which features a web site that utilizes all of the 256 colors that the internet offers, encourages advertisers to "Keep It In the Box." "The Box" meaning, of course, the boundaries of a standard banner ad. The site also features an introductory video that will acquaint users with the C.R.A.P.A.D.S. team. It features some of the finest screen wipes available on the Commodore Amiga's Video Toaster.

"It seems like a section of the Internet audience is in such a rush these days," Letchwell continued. "They need their HD-definition televisions, their telephones that don't have fun, twisting cords, or their modems that don't need to be dialed in. And I guess they're welcome to have them."

"But captivating ads that grab the attention of a user and encourage them to engage with a product? That's not for us."

To view the C.R.A.P.A.D.S. difference for yourself, visit http://www.crapads.org.

In the interest of comparison; to view Pointroll's rich-media ads, visit http://www.pointroll.com.

Neo-Pangea is an innovative digital agency that specializes in digital video production, Web design, 3D design, interactive experiences, and live-environment multimedia. It has created successful promotions for Fortune 100 brands across the globe such as the National Geographic Channel, Comcast, and Wal-Mart. Neo-Pangea conceptualized and built the tests in 3D Studio and Papervision 3D. The idea behind the RED camera system is simple. Design and build a high performance digital cine camera with the quality of 35mm film and convenience of pure digital. RED delivers unmatched image quality with no recording system limitations.
Related Links:

RED Cinema Demo

Neo-Pangea Reteams with National Geographic Channel to Launch "The Headshrinker", a Multimedia Application Invites Users to Upload Photos and Transform Them Into Creepy Shrunken Heads

In an effort to contain the angry souls of their vanquished foes, the members of the Amazonian Shuar tribe would literally "shrink" the heads of their enemies. This process, which involves removing the skull and insides of the head as well as sewing the eyes and mouth shut, is frowned on by western society.

Fortunately, the folks at Neo-Pangea have found a way to replicate this super cool process without any of that messy head-hollowing-out business.

To celebrate the November 15th premiere of National Geographic Channel’s (NGC) "Search for the Amazon Headshrinkers," which kicks of the network’s 2nd Annual Expedition Week, Neo-Pangea has teamed with NGC to create "The Headshrinker." This versatile application allows you to upload any photograph (your boss, your mother-in-law, that shifty cousin who owes you $50...) and transform it into a realistic-looking 3-D shrunken head.

From there, you can customize your creepy creation by choosing from four different head shapes. You can add different accessories including bones, braids, and jewelry. You can change the color of your shrunken head’s hair or add facial hair to match your own, or create some crazy-freak-alien-hybrid. To further accentuate the experience, you can select from Amazon-inspired environments and different types of background music.

Once you’re done, you can share your morbid masterpiece through e-mail, embed on your Facebook wall, or shout to your BFFs on popular social networking sites like Mixx, Facebook, Twitter, Digg, Delicious, reddit, and MySpace.

"We really had a good time with this one," said Neo-Pangea Creative Director Brett Bagenstose. "In fact, the creations turned out to be far more bizarre than we had originally intended. Once we started rotating the images to put the picture’s eye or nose where it’s mouth is supposed to be, it opened up a whole new world of gross opportunities. And yes, I enjoy having a job where a ‘gross opportunity’ is a good thing."

"The Headshrinker" is the latest collaboration between Neo-Pangea and the National Geographic Channel. Their first joint effort, The "Aftermath" timeline, earned the West Reading-based company a National Addy Award.

"National Geographic Channel offers such diverse and interesting content, that partnering with them is always an exciting challenge," Bagenstose continued. "Working with Nat Geo, we’ve had an opportunity to imagine what the end of the world would look like and what the intern would look like with his eyes stitched shut. I can’t wait to see what we’ll get to imagine next."

West Reading Based Digital Agency's Recent Hire, Renovated Studio Add Versatility, Value to Upcoming Projects

Neo-Pangea has been crafting national-award-winning mixed media projects for world-renowned brands since its inception over a decade ago. Now, the creative team is pleased to introduce two key components that have been helping make Neo-Pangea the choice for not only unconventional websites and applications, but video productions as well.

First, Aaron Beaucher, the former Creative Director and Partner of the highly regarded, Philadelphia-based broadcast design boutique Synthesis has accepted a full-time position with the company. Aaron brings with him over twelve years of commercial and broadcast experience conceptualizing and executing projects for clients including; Discovery Channel, Bravo, FX, Spalding, and Fidelity Investments.

"We often get calls that start with, 'I have this crazy idea; can you do it?' This generally ends with all of us piled around a whiteboard until we can come back with a 'Yes,'" said Neo-Pangea Founder Brett Bagenstose. "Aaron has worked with us on a variety projects over the past few years and shares our mad-scientist work ethic. His sensibilities and quality of work also fit in seamlessly with ours. So, bringing him in permanently was a no-brainer. We're stepping up our production capabilities and Aaron is a big part of that equation."

And the other part? The newly renovated Neo-Pangea Studios. Located in the same building as Neo-Pangea's West Reading office, this versatile space offers the creative team a convenient, cost-efficient space for shooting digital video, photography, presentations, and more.

"A good example of how the space can be utilized was when Penn Mutual's agency, Influence, partnered with to us on the Worth for Women project (www.worthforwomen.com)," Bagenstose explained. "We were able to film all six of the individual actors against the studio's green screen, then combine them seamlessly into the digitally created coffee shop environment."

"Production and video in general have become essential to our interactive projects, so having a studio at our disposal affords us a greater range of creative flexibility," added Beaucher (who worked as Director/Producer on the Penn Mutual project). "We worked with the client on this project from conception. The shoot required a great deal of preproduction to ensure seamless integration and interaction going into Flash. Having all those capabilities under one roof proved invaluable, not only for us but for our client as well."
Bagenstose continued, "So, with Aaron and Neo-Pangea Studios both at our disposal, when our clients think of us, they don't just think Web. They think of us as their complete integrated multimedia solution."

Neo-Pangea is an innovative agency that specializes in digital video and audio productions, Web design, interactive experiences, and live multimedia performances. It has created successful promotions for Fortune 100 brands such as National Geographic, ABC, Nike, Motorola, Comcast, and Wal-Mart.

For studio pricing and availability, please contact Aaron Beaucher at (610) 796-2323 (Extension 9) or aaron@neo-pangea.com.

To see the studio in action, visit: http://www.neo-pangea.com/studio/

To view Neo-Pangea's demo reel, visit http://www.neo-pangea.com/demo/

For more information on Neo-Pangea, visit http://www.neo-pangea.com
Related Links:

Neo-Pangea Studio

Neo-Pangea Demo Reel

"Putting this project together with Walmart and the Martin Agency has been a very rewarding experience for us," said Neo-Pangea's Baron of Pixels Brett Bagenstose. "We really got a chance to wow the big boys with the cutting-edge ideas and work we're capable of. Being named 'Best In Class' adds another spring in our already quite springy-step."

The Walmart "Your Zone" augmented reality application is a revolutionary way for customers to shop for home decor.
After receiving awards at the local and regional ADDY competitions, Neo-Pangea received countrywide recognition when they were presented a National Silver ADDY Award for their National Geographic Channel "Aftermath" Timeline.

This interactive timeline was created to promote National Geographic Channel's "Aftermath" special, a look at what would happen to the Earth if all of the humans were to suddenly disappear. This evolving timeline consists of a landscape that features wildlife, a house, a nuclear reactor, a car, and a distant city. As the user scrolls down the timeline into a future with no humans; different animals became dominant, the buildings and car deteriorate, and the nuclear reactor melts down and crumbles.

"This award is a little bit bittersweet for me," Neo-Pangea Baron of Pixels Brett Bagenstose exclaimed. "On one hand, I'm truly proud of our team and what we've accomplished. On the other, I was extremely disappointed to learn there isn't an Intergalactic ADDY Award Competition."

"I've always wanted to put Jupiter in their place," Bagenstose added.

Given out by the American Advertising Federation, the ADDY Awards are considered to be "the industry's largest and most comprehensive program for recognizing creative excellence." The awards are voted on by a panel of renowned creative directors from some of the world's most prestigious advertising agencies. Nationwide, the competition consists of over 50,000 entries spread out over 200 cities.

Neo-Pangea Teams with Wal-Mart to Launch "Your Zone" 3-D Augmented Reality Home Decor Tool

The Internet has been changing the way the world works, dates, and does practically everything else over the past two decades. However, for all of the life-changing strides the Internet has made in other fields, it hasn't done much in the way of making furniture lighter... that is until today.

The creative team at Neo-Pangea, in partnership with Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. and their traditional print and television advertising agency, The Martin Agency, is pleased to announce the creation of "Your Zone." This innovative 3-D online experience will let you hold a virtual room filled with ever-changing Wal-Mart furniture sets, pieces, and home decor.

"With this project being a tool that people will use to see actual products, it was really important for us to make sure the items look exactly as they do in the store," said Neo-Pangea's Royal Alchemist Jason Morris. "The textures for the individual drapes, sheets, comforters... everything were taken from photos of the actual products."

And here’s where it really gets cool...

You can print out a marker on a regular piece of paper using a standard printer. When you place this marker in front of an ordinary Webcam, a 3-D room full of Wal-Mart products comes to life in your hands. The fabrics, wall colors, and accessories change over time to represent your teenager's ever-changing style and give you a larger view of the vast product line. The team at Neo-Pangea utilized Papervision3D to render the virtual room in real time, so when you rotate the marker, the room rotates. When you move the marker closer to the Webcam, the room gets larger.

"'Your Zone' is a revolutionary way for Wal-Mart shoppers to enjoy a realistic view of how a wide variety of furnishings will look in their homes without having to lug enormous pieces back and forth," said Neo-Pangea Baron of Pixels Brett Bagenstose. "It won’t make the furniture lighter, but it is the next best thing. I'm not sure why our copywriter said that earlier. I'm going to have a talk with him."

Based in West Reading, Pennsylvania, Neo-Pangea is an innovative agency that specializes in digital video and audio productions, Web design, interactive experiences, and live multimedia performances. It has created successful promotions for Fortune 100 brands such as Comcast, Nike, National Geographic... and now Wal-Mart.

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. is currently ranked number one on Fortune magazine's prestigious Fortune 500 list and operates more than 7,000 facilities and employs more than two million associates worldwide. For the fiscal year ending January 31, 2008, Wal-Mart was the world's largest retailer with in excess of $374 billion dollars in sales.

The Martin Agency is based in Richmond, Virginia and is part of Interpublic Group of Companies. It has been ranked the #3 Agency in the world by Advertising Age. They lead brands such as GEICO, UPS, Hanes, Wal-Mart, and NASCAR.

Related Links:

Visit Your Zone 3D

The Martin Agency

Neo-Pangea

Our hard work finally pays off! The folks at Adobe granted us the Site of the Day award for National Geographic's film, Aftermath. The website is a 3-dimensional timeline that lets you explore a world you will never see; a world without people. Advance time to see buildings fall and nature rise - you are in control.

Aftermath - Population Zero:
What would happen if every single person on Earth simply disappeared? Gone. Not dead, just gone. This is the astounding story of a world we will never see. A world without people, where city streets are still populated by cars, but without drivers. Nobody to fix bridges, repair buildings or maintain power plants. After being controlled by humanity for millennia, nature reclaims the earth. But how would that work? How long would skyscrapers, nuclear power plants, and our homes last if abandoned? How would wild and domestic animals fare without us? Will the Eiffel Tower outlast the Statue of Liberty? Aftermath: Population Zero gives us a chance to see the impact of human beings by seeing how Earth would adapt without us.

Adobe:
Adobe revolutionizes how the world engages with ideas and information. For 25 years, the company's award-winning software and technologies have redefined business, entertainment, and personal communications by setting new standards for producing and delivering content that engages people virtually anywhere at anytime. From rich images in print, video, and film to dynamic digital content for a variety of media, the impact of Adobe solutions is evident across industries and felt by anyone who creates, views, and interacts with information. With a reputation for excellence and a portfolio of many of the most respected and recognizable software brands, Adobe is one of the world's largest and most diversified software companies.

Related Links:

Aftermath

Adobe

National Geographic

This November 25th the mentally deranged producers at Neo-Pangea have put together a screening of short films too hot for the What? Film Festival.

What?: The F@*k! screening is comprised of 90 minutes of adult-themed, uncensored international film & video shorts that we didn't dare to show you during the regular festival (as well a few faves in encore screening). Including a promiscuous animated birdie (banned in London), a naked slumber party gone wrong, and a heart warming story of a young man and his mentor... a puddle of hurl. The short films & videos are interspersed with engaging live comedy and music inside the 024ARTS GALLERY!

The What?: The F@*k! Film Festival! is a vexatious and virile, red-blooded battle against audio-visual mediocrity. In other words, it’s a night of irregular comedy, engaging music, and obscure movies in an unusual atmosphere. Expect an eclectic mix of funny, bizarre, fringe and disturbingly alternative films....

We suggest wearing a disguise.

New York, NY - May 16, 2005 - In a night that was highlighted by a Suicide Girls fashion show, free cigarettes and booze, and what was described by one attendee as "the best tacos ever", Neo-Pangea was awarded the "Best Soundtrack" award by Sony Music recording artist Nellie McKay.

"The Groceries" awards ceremony is "the rock-fueled, no-frills spectacle" that marks the finale of the Arlene's Grocery Picture Show. Carrots, peas, corn, and other canned items that have been mounted to wood bases are given out as trophies to the top festival prize winners.

Luminaries such as Ben Gazzara, Peter Bogdanovich, Ron Palillo (TVs Horschack), and Rudy Ray Moore (blaxploitation star Dolemite) were on hand to witness Neo-Pangea proudly walk away with a 1lb 13oz can of Premium Frijoles Negros (Black Beans).

"It's a great feeling to be recognized for our soundtrack. More people ask me 'when can I buy the soundtrack' than they ask 'when can I buy the movie'," explained Director Brett Bagenstose. "Most of the credit for this award goes to John. However, with four weekends jam packed with more than 500 films, the Arlene's Grocery Picture Show looked like way too much fun to pass up. So, if you happen to find yourself in New York City on Saturday, April 23, 2005 at 5 p.m., stop inside Arlene's Grocery located at 95 Stanton Street for the last (maybe…) film festival appearance of Townies.

Neo-Pangea's tale was well received by the entry panel. Festival Director Dave Hollander even went so far as to exclaim, "At last, it's this generation's Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Outstanding." Your bribe is in the mail, Dave.

"We're really excited to be a part of this show," explained Director Brett Bagenstose. "Soupy Sales, the Suicide Girls, and Townies… all under one roof. It's gonna be awesome. Admission is free, so, I may never leave."

"And, it's a good excuse to get back to New York and visit McSorley's," added Producer Robert Trate.

The production team has also been invited to attend The Groceries award show on Monday, May 16, 2005 as Townies has been nominated as "Best Narrative Feature". The lucky film to win this prestigious award will be presented with a can of pigeon peas.

Related Links:

www.filmsfilmsfilms.com

www.areyouatownie.com

www.neo-pangea.com

Reading, PA - Hot off a string of impressive award-winning screenings nationwide, Neo-Pangea is proud to announce that "Townies" has been accepted as an official selection in the 2004 Big Apple Film Festival in New York City. This annual event, presented by the Anthology Film Archives (located at 32 Second Avenue), is a two-day salute to independent films from all over the world. "Townies" will screen Saturday, December 18, 2004 at 2:15 p.m. ET.

"New York was definitely number one on the list," explained Producer Robert Trate. "We're all really excited to get up there and show off our baby to the independent film capital."

"This is an honor," added Director Brett Bagenstose. "I'm looking forward to playing in the city that never sleeps…because I also never sleep."

"Townies" is the tale of pizza delivery peon Jake Slate, a seven-year college student who has come to a crossroads in his life. Along the way they have received such accolades as Best Narrative Feature from Boston's Zoinks! Film Festival and Runner Up for Best Feature in Philadelphia's First Glance Film Festival (coming in second by a miniscule one-hundredth of a point to Brian Austin Greene's "Fish Without a Bicycle").

Boston, MA - (Monday, August 30, 2004) - The team behind the Zoinks! Film Fest billed their event as a "Wicked Cool Film Festival", and they didn't disappoint. Three tents and one comedy club filled with almost a hundred independent films blanketed Boston's bustling Faneuil Hall Market Place. And in the middle of it all...three filmmakers from Pennsylvania Dutch country.

"Townies" won over the appreciate, energetic, and extremely giddy crowd at The Comedy Connection. David Willis, Zoinks! Festival Co-Director, noted the screening had "the biggest crowd to date". A boisterous Q&A session followed, where the team from Neo-Pangea emphasized their pains, pleasures, and passions to an audience filled partly with Emerson College Film School Students. Book-ending both sides of the screening were rip-roaring shindigs held at Faneuil Hall's The Rack and Boston Rocks. Each party overflowed with lively patrons, free beer, and captivating wait staffs... not to mention Insomniac's Dave Attell and Police Academy's Michael Winslow.

Unfortunately, our brave trio had to head home the morning before the awards ceremony. Fortunately, the good folks at Zoinks! let it slip that "Townies" was going to win Best Narrative Feature.

"The crowd was great, the Q&A was great, the venue was great, the people were great." said "Townies producer Bob Trate. "We also got free Star Wars LEGOs, which was great."

"I'm not sure how it gets any better than an ecstatic audience, an award, Michael Winslow, and free beer." added "Townies" director Brett Bagenstose. "Did Bob mention that it was Great?".

READING, PA (Monday, July 19, 2004) On the heels of their impressive showings across Pennsylvania, Neo-Pangea is preparing to take its feature-length comedy across the country to Seattle's F*cking Fabulous Film Festival. So, any Neo-Pangea fans in the Pacific Northwest will want to swing by Oliwood Films located at 910 ½ E. Pike St. on Saturday, August 7, 2004 for their next chance to see "Townies".

"We've been having the best time and receiving some good feedback at the festivals we've attended so far." said producer/director Brett Bagenstose. "Going to Seattle should be a lot of fun, especially since it's the hometown of two of the bands featured in the movie, The Spits and The Briefs."

READING, PA (Tuesday, June 29, 2004) Digital media company Neo-Pangea has announced the line-up for the soundtrack to their upcoming film, “Townies”. The soundtrack features over 40 diverse songs that each capture the energy
and emotion of this film in its own unique way.

“Today, it seems, we are never without at least one source of background music,” said Neo-Pangea producer John Carmello. “Occasionally, the music we hear is chosen because it speaks to us. Often, it is just ‘there' – emanating from one of the many sources of media in which we are drowned. The challenge for us was to compile a soundtrack which represented this diverse, random collage – one that both suited the moods and desires of our characters, and created an occasionally detached, if not ironic, sound backdrop against which our story transpires.”

“To reach this goal, we pulled from as broad a base of genres and production levels as we could find. Cory Branan's alt-country ‘Miss Ferguson’, which opens the film with fittingly cautious optimism, Vic Thrill's driving, yet spaced-out and paranoid, ‘Nobody's Watching the Radar’, and Billionaire Boys Club's straight-forward, post-punk ‘Super OK’ which ends it with a bang, are a few standouts. Every piece we used, however, was selected for the way it is able to convey a certain message, a piece of this collage, in a distinctive way.”

“Townies” is the story Jake Slate, a pizza delivery boy/seven-year college student who has come to a crossroads in his life. Down one path lies the same friends, the same parties, and the same feelings of inadequacy. Down the other, a promising internship with a Fortune 500 company, a desk, a 401K plan, and a corporate handbook. In the end, Jake must decide if true happiness come from having what you want, or from wanting what you have?

READING, PA (Thursday, June 10, 2004) Fresh off their impressive debut at Philadelphia's First Glance Film Festival, Neo-Pangea is ready to take over the "City of Brotherly Love" once again. The date: Saturday, June 26, 2004. The time: Noon ET. The venue: The over-450-seat International House located at 3701 Chestnut Street.

While final numbers aren't available, the "Townies" screening was said to be the First Glance Film Festival's highest turn-out with almost double the ticket sales of any other screening. Director/Producer Brett Bagenstose plans to repeat this performance, "We were really blown-away by the support we got at First Glance. The mood afterwards was great. We hope to see everyone again at the Philly Video Fest... with all their friends and family... and people they meet on the street. We'd really appreciate that."

Between completing the final stages of post-production, the "Townies" summer movie festival tour, and the recent addition of a new 8-pound collaborator, Neo-Pangea has been quite busy. However, somewhere in their hectic schedule they still found the time to create a new, longer trailer that better illustrates the plot -Enjoy!

"Townies" is the story Jake Slate, a pizza delivery boy/seven-year college student who has come to a crossroads in his life.
Related Links:

www.phillyvideofest.com

www.ihousephilly.org

www.areyouatownie.com

www.neo-pangea.com

Make the trip to the "City of Brotherly Love" and see a movie that was described as "laugh-out-loud funny" by the Reading Eagle. Not convinced? Other rave reviews include, "it could have used more poop jokes," from Producer Gordon Holmes' mother, Janet Holmes. The gorgeous Painted Bride Theater is the venue for the film festival, and Neo-Pangea is hoping to pack the screening. Director/Producer Brett Bagenstose was quoted as saying, "What's interesting about this festival is that the winners are chosen by the audience... so we need to pack the theater and get them liquored up!"

And as if that excitement wasn't enough, Producer Gordon Holmes added, "We're so happy to have the opportunity to be in a festival so close to home, that we want to make it a bit of a happening. So, we're going to be giving away 'Townies' t-shirts, pins, posters, and other goodies. I tell ya, you don't get that kind of lovin' from the producers of 'The Passion of the Christ'."

READING, PA (Saturday, September 27, 2003) Over 250 invitees - including cast, crew, location owners, and more – packed the main theater at Fairground Square Mall's Cinema Center for the first-ever screening of the final cut of Neo-Pangea's "Townies". Cast members on hand for this exclusive screening included Rebecca Kimball, Ernest Waddell, Nakia Dillard, and Marc Solomon.

The festivities kicked-off shortly after 7 p.m. as Producer Gordon Holmes thanked the crowd on hand for their work and support over the past two years of production. The film then played for the crowd on hand.

"Going into something like this, you're going to be nervous," said Producer John Carmello, "but having them laugh at the first joke takes an enormous weight off of your shoulders. Having them laugh at each joke that follows really makes you feel better. Eventually we were able to breathe easily and enjoy the movie ourselves."

After the screening, a reception was held at the Canal Street Restaurant and Pub. Official "Townies" merchandise was available at the reception, however several pieces sold out very quickly. These items will be reordered and will soon be available to purchase at www.areyouatownie.com.

"We're ecstatic." Producer/Director Brett Bagenstose exclaimed at the reception, "I don't think this evening could have gone any better. It was great to have an opportunity to thank everyone who made this possible. And, someone bought me a beer!"

The article documented the trials and tribulations of independent filmmaking in Reading, PA. A follow-up article, discussing the cast and crew screening, is expected in the Monday, September 29, 2003 issue.

Bagenstose also had an opportunity to discuss the film during the Friday, September 26, 2003 broadcast of the "Channel 69 News". The Reading-based news organization interviewed Bagenstose at the Fairgrounds Cinema Center, the venue for the screening.

For more information on Neo-Pangea's "Townies" including scenes, trailers, production stills, bios, and more, visit www.areyouatownie.com.

Photo Courtesy Matthew J. They are readying their first full-length movie for entry into film festivals.

By Stephanie Caltagirone

Reading Eagle Correspondent

You might not think of Berks County as a Mecca for moviemaking, but local filmmakers Brett Bagenstose, John Carmello, Gordon Holmes and Robert Trate aren't your typical movie moguls.
They're four friends who are readying their first full-length feature for entry into film festivals.

"Townies" was shot at various locations in Berks County and tells the story of Jake (Tim Bensch), a pizza delivery guy/seven-year college student who must choose between his long-time friends or a promising career and the girl of his dreams.

"We're describing it as 'Jackass' meets 'Great Expectations,'" Bagenstose said. "It's a class struggle between the office and the pizza parlor. Jake is in the last year of college, struggling with where his life is going."
Bagenstose wrote, directed, edited and executive produced the film. Carmello assisted the director, coordinated the soundtrack, managed locations and also is an executive producer. Trate was production manager, second assistant director, wardrobe master and set decorator. Holmes worked as assistant writer, acting coach and has a small role in the film.

They also hired professionals for lighting, sound and documentation to record their experience. Neo-Pangea, based in Shillington, funded the entire $100,000 production.

"We wanted to create things ourselves," Bagenstose said. "We don't want to work in anyone else's shadow."
Ranging in age from 26 to 29, the four Wilson High School graduates, who all live in Berks County, formed their production company, Neo-Pangea, about 10 years ago.

During the past decade, they have collaborated on animated and live-action short films, including the sci-fi thriller "Gabriel 6" and the Flash animation choose-your-own-path film "The Break-up Simulator." They also produced the Ace Award-winning Berks Cable sketch-comedy program "The Recliners" while working day jobs to pay the bills.

Carmello paints houses. Holmes is a copywriter for QVC. Trate is a waiter and Bagenstose designs Web sites for various companies.

When they raised enough money, they began work on their first feature film.

Bagenstose had been working on the screenplay for years, but finished the final draft of the script early last year.

When it came time to cast the film, they put out a casting call on acting Web sites and looked through 600 headshots in four weeks. After trimming down the list, they auditioned actors.

"We knew when we saw (Bensch, Ernest Waddell, Nakia Dillard and Jonah Spear) together that they were it," Bagenstose said.

"It was kind of cool having actors from New York and L.A. come here (to Berks County)," Holmes said. "A lot of them were in culture shock. We were concerned about how we came off to professional actors. We take pride in the production."

Over the course of six summer weekends in 2002, they shot the 265-page script, which translated into 265 minutes of film, well over the normal running time of a comedy.

"We shot every single page," Bagenstose said.

"Then we had to go back and cut," Holmes said. "That was the depressing part."

They filmed in 17 locations throughout Berks County, including the Pagoda, Frank's Pizza in Sinking Spring and the former Army-Navy Store in Muhlenberg Township.

"It was a little shocking for people when we walked in and asked if we could film (at their business)," Carmello said. "For the most part, people were approachable. But a couple people didn't realize what filming would entail."

"Through personal contacts in the area, we were able to get what we needed," Trate said.

After a year of post-production, the film is almost ready to be entered in film festivals. An almost-final version will be shown to invited guests on Saturday night at Cinema Center Fairgrounds.

After they finish the film, the founders of Neo-Pangea will look for their next project.

"Our plate is pretty open," Bagenstose said. "We don't want to get typecast."

Contact Stephanie Caltagirone at entertainment@readingeagle.com
Related Links:

areyouatownie.com

Shillington, PA (Wednesday, April 23, 2003) Governor Mifflin High School recently held its 10th Annual Sophomore Career Day. The event featured speakers from such diverse jobs as medical evacuation pilot, neuropsychologist, and general manager for a minor league hockey team. Reading-based digital media production company Neo-Pangea was invited to share its experience in the video, digital, and animation fields. The company sent producers Brett Bagenstose, Gordon Holmes, and Robert Trate to participate in this educational forum.

Speaking in front of a group of fifteen aspiring filmmakers, the trio individually discussed how their educational backgrounds and experience helped make Neo-Pangea productions possible. To show examples of Neo-Pangea's work, the team played the most recent demo reel and the "Townies" teaser trailer, as well as a special sneak preview of the "Townies" soon-to-be-launched website.

The producers answered questions from the students including "What type of programs and equipment do you use for editing?" and most importantly "How much money do you make?"

When asked about how the presentation went, Holmes said, "It was great to have an opportunity to speak with these young people today. Hopefully they learned that you can't make it in this industry without hard work and vision."

"It's also important that they know that this isn't like a career in accounting where a degree will get you a job." Bagenstose added. "We told them to go out and to get as much experience as possible, pick up cables, get people coffee, dress sets, it'll all pay off in the end."
Related Links:

www.areyouatownie.com

www.neo-pangea.com

If you happen by a newsstand in Pennsylvania and spot a copy of "Berks County Living" with a photo of the Pagoda on the cover, pick it up! You're now holding the December 2002 issue of this Berks-based publication. Quick, turn to page 20! Why it's an article about Neo-Pangea's "Townies". This article chronicles the trials and tribulations producers Brett Bagenstose, John Carmello, Gordon Holmes, and Bob Trate went through during the filming of Neo-Pangea's first-ever feature-length production. Neo-Pangea would like to thank the good folks at "Berks County Living" for their fine feature!

FROM BERKS COUNTY LIVING:

Their names are not plastered all over the pages of Variety yet, but Brett Bagenstose, John Carmello, Robert Trate, and Gordon Holmes of Shillington's Neo-Pangea have big hopes for their first feature film, Townies. A digital comedy shot in and around the Reading area this summer, Townies revolves around a pizza delivery boy who has come to a crossroads in his life. The film poses the question, "Does true happiness come from having what you want, or from wanting what you have?"

Why did Neo-Pangea choose Berks County for its film? According to Writer/Producer/Director Bagenstose, Berks offers a filmmaker locations ranging from colonial to modern, a supportive police department, and convenient access to Philadelphia and New York. These particular filmmakers grew up in Berks County, and Assistant Director Carmello believes that they had help from area businesses and organizations "that it would have been impossible to get without roots." Specific supporters included A & N Outfitters in Wyomissing, the Cumru police department, Frank's Pizza in Sinking Spring, and Horrigan BMW and AC Moore, both in Shillington. Family and friends helped the crew in securing locations—including their own homes!—and providing moral support. "It's ironic that we're referred to as ‘independent' filmmakers, considering how dependent we are on the community for support," Bagenstose mused.

When asked about filming in the town he grew up in, Trate, who served as Production Manager/Continuity Director on the project, observed, "Bringing the character and feel of Reading and Berks County to an outside audience is thrilling for a Reading Phillies fan like me."

There were some challenges, of course. Before the crew began filming, Trate remembers, "so many people said to Brett, ‘You can't make a movie in Reading! You make movies in Hollywood. You'll never get anything off the ground!'" Once production began, curious passersby and "residents concerned about [an unusual looking] car with a camera hanging out the window driving up and down their block" added to the challenges.

Because Neo-Pangea is a small production company, few people had to accomplish many tasks. "Every weekend was like going to war," Bagenstose remembers. "Many nights the intensity of the shoot gave us cold sweats."

"Producing a feature like ours gives you a surreal to-do list," Carmello explains. "One night I called actors, assembled mailboxes, edited legal release forms, tried to book a heavy metal act, and drove around trying to borrow eight grocery carts."

It takes an exceptional group of people to pull off a project the size of Townies, and Neo-Pangea is indeed an exceptional group. When they met, they were a bunch of kids taping a weekly show, Wacky Weather, at Wilson High School. Later, they developed a sketch comedy program called The Recliners, gaining exposure and valuable experience through Berks Cable public access.

They soon ventured into movie making. "Our first films were made in my mom's basement after school on a camera I bought after a summer of working at the Dairy Queen," Bagenstose remembers.

After Bagenstose graduated from film school at Temple University, he returned to the Reading area and formed Neo-Pangea, which, in addition to Carmello, Trate, and Holmes, includes "co-conspirators and collaborators" from his Berks Cable days and his later professional life.

Neo-Pangea has gained recognition over the past few years for its film, video, animation, and Internet creations. The Big Fun Show won an honorable mention in Playboy Magazine's Comix and Animation Contest, and Gabriel 6, a sci-fi digital short, received Temple's Derek Freese Award and the Jury Prize at the Atlantic City Film Festival.

Bagenstose, who wrote Townies over about five years, says he never considered having someone else make the film. "We want to be filmmakers. And the way to do that is by actually making films. I couldn't see being so attached to a story for so many years of your life then just letting it go for a paycheck. Art shouldn't work like that."

The company plans to complete post-production by early next year, after which they will start the film festival circuit. Acting Coach/Associate Producer Holmes feels confident about Townies' success: "We have a funny script with a great heart, an incredible cast, and enthusiasm on our side."

Sharing Townies with audiences will be wonderful, Trate explains. "It's a chance to have our sense of humor reach out and make other people laugh. I can't wait until Brett is able to sit in on an audience that doesn't know him and get to hear them laugh and cheer at what he has created. I think that moment will be better than any dollar amount or golden statue."

What if Townies does hit the big time—will Neo-Pangea head to the West Coast? Nah, says Bagenstose. "We plan to stay around the area and continue to use its locations and resources to our advantage. If we do get Hollywood ‘A-list' actors in our films someday, I think it would be great to take Samuel L. Jackson shopping at the farmer's market and grab a fastnacht together."

To find out more about Townies and Neo-Pangea, visit their Web site at www.neo-pangea.com.
Related Links:

Townies Website

Neo-Pangea

READING, PA (Saturday, August 18, 2002) - Shillington-based multimedia company Neo-Pangea has completed the principal photography on their debut feature-length digital video "Townies". In "Townies", Tim Bensch stars as Jake Slate, a pizza delivery boy/seven-year college student who has come to a crossroads in his life. Down one path lies the same friends, the same parties, and the same feelings of inadequacy. Down the other, a promising internship with a Fortune 500 company, a desk, a 401K plan, and a corporate handbook. In the end, does true happiness come from having what you want, or from wanting what you have?

Though the movie is comedic on the surface, the underlying plot is of serious intent. Universal themes of loyalty, belonging, ambition, and personal growth are all dealt with in "Townies" on different levels.

Bagenstose's Neo-Pangea is made up of co-conspirators and collaborators from both his public access days and his professional career. Recently Neo-Pangea's comedic animation, "The Big Fun Show," was featured in Playboy Magazine after winning an honorable mention in its "Comix and Animation Contest." This contest was judged by such luminaries as New Jersey-based director Kevin Smith.

The Neo-Pangea production "Gabriel 6" was screened in such diverse areas as the Netherlands, the Atlantic City Film Festival, and the Museum of Photography in Tokyo, Japan. Neo-Pangea also makes the most of new media. Their "Break-Up Simulator" is credited as the first Flash-based interactive movie ever. Bagenstose also has two Philadelphia Addy Awards and a Macromedia Site of the Day Award under his belt.

Several pick-up shoots have been scheduled to fill in the blanks of the principal photography. Now the producers are speaking with local bands about appearing on the soundtrack, as well as planning their post-production efforts. Tentatively a trailer is scheduled for October of 2002 and Neo-Pangea hopes the final product will be completed in early 2003.
Related Links:

Townies Website

READING, PA (Thursday, May 30, 2002) – Neo-Pangea, a local production company comprised mainly of Pennsylvanians, having tasted success outside of the area, has resettled into the community in which they were raised with the undertaking of the local production of a feature length motion picture. The film, "Townies", is to be shot entirely in and around Reading, Pennsylvania. (If you’ve never heard of it, check your Monopoly board). The company also develops new-media technologies like digital video productions, Internet-radio broadcasts, flash web-experiences, digital audio productions, and on-stage multimedia performances. We think of ourselves not as a production company, however, but rather as a group of collaborators sharing resources, information, and most importantly - ideas.

"Townies" is a 120 minute comedy shot on digital video. The Picture has an ultra low budget because digital video requires a small crew, no film processing and development costs, and quick turn-around time. Neo-Pangea has developed internship programs with local colleges to provide hands-on and career building experience to college attendees. The style of the humor in "Townies" is a careful blend of social satire, off-beat character study, and slapstick.

Though the movie is strictly a comedy, the underlying plot is of serious intent. The universal themes behind "Townies" hit home on many levels. Anyone who has experienced those awkward years right out of college can relate to the confusion and frustration the lead character feels in his life. Not knowing your place in the world, where you belong, or what it means to be an adult can motivate anyone to do just about anything. In the end, does true happiness come from having what you want, or from wanting what you have?

Because of its fresh outlook, its unique setting, and its provocative themes, we believe this film's appeal will be great with free thinkers of any age. The picture's prevalent themes of belonging, loyalty, and growth are especially relevant for the 18 to 25 age group which faces similar obstacles daily. The tenor of the film is the real key to its charm, though. Our off-center, unflinching point of view lends credibility and humor to the project, both of which are necessary to gain a modern audience's trust. And as the film is peppered with humor, the movie will never drag or lose its audience's interest the way a straight drama might. In fact, we hope the universal appeal of its humor will make this film a "must -have" cult classic to be watched repeatedly and shared with friends.

The success of a film such as "Townies" will bring future opportunity and capital into a community willing to support it. Local businesses, such as Frank's NY Style Pizza in Sinking Spring and Horrigan BMW in Shillington, have been very supportive of our project and have proven themselves willing to go out of their way to encourage our art-form. We believe that, as John puts it "if we didn't have a connection to this town we couldn't have made this movie. We've gotten so much help from area businesses and organizations, not to mention friends and family, that would have been impossible to get without roots. We want to continue along this symbiotic path with our community".

The Director and principal crew (Brett Bagenstose, John Carmello, Gordon Holmes, and Robert Trate) are all Berks natives. There, during their formative years, they spent free time creating new and unusual content for their public access television program, "The Recliners." After winning two local Ace Awards and graduating high school, Bagenstose migrated to the Philadelphia area to attend Temple University's Film and Media Arts program while Holmes, Trate, and Carmello all enrolled in Penn State University.

While attending Temple, Bagenstose's short-digital video work was shown in local and international festivals. From the Netherlands to Japan to Florida, his work reached audiences all over the world. During his senior year, Bagenstose teamed up yet again with his long-time collaborators to create a half-hour sci-fi digital video entitled "Gabriel 6." "Gabriel 6" was awarded the "1999 Derek Freese Award" from Temple University and the "Jury Prize" at the Atlantic City Film Festival. Currently, they are evolving this story concept into a feature-length film.

Upon graduation, Bagenstose started his own digital arts company, Neo-Pangea, which has gained considerable press for its film, video, animation, and internet creations. Neo-Pangea is made up of co-conspirators and collaborators from both his public access days and his professional career. Recently their animation, "The Big Fun Show," was featured in Playboy Magazine after winning an honorable mention in its "Comix and Animation Contest." Bagenstose also has two Philadelphia Addy Awards and has a Macromedia Site of the Day Award under his belt.

Neo-Pangea, unlike most production companies who migrate to the West Coast, vows to stay planted when their success comes. "We started here and we'll finish here", Director Brett Bagenstose says, "I've seen what happens when a production company gets caught up in the 'system' - the plot gets watered down and the project becomes only about the money. If we do get Hollywood 'A-list' actors in our films some day, I think it would be great to take Samuel L. Jackson shopping at the farmer's market and grab a fastnacht together".
Related Links:

Townies Website

(Philadelphia, PA) March 1, 2001 - Neo-Pangea proudly announces the debut of its latest Flash film, "The Break-Up Simulator." The Philadelphia-based Company welcomes everyone to view it at www.breakupsimulator.com.

Within the clash between 1950's hygiene films and modern sensibilities, the "Break-Up Simulator" is the comedic first person account of an attempt to end your relationship with your girlfriend. If you make the right choices you get off scot-free. Make the wrong choices and you could end up back where you started, hated, or worse--remember, hell hath no fury like a woman scorned! And stay tuned; after each run through, one of several short commercial parodies will play as your reward.

The "Break-Up Simulator" is Neo-Pangea's second Flash-based effort. The first, "Big Fun Show" won an honorable mention in the 2000 Playboy Animation Festival. Neo-Pangea has also created the notable works "Gabriel 6," "Soul Survivor," and "Goofy Ganja.", and has sponsored the first annual "under.ground-cyber.tech" Digital Film Festival which opens on our website on 03.02.01.

When Neo-Pangea founder Brett Bagenstose brought the idea of a Flash project using actual film to the Neo-Pangea creative team, the idea of a pick-a-path approach, reminiscent of familiar youth-oriented "Choose Your Own Adventure" books was chosen. Several concepts were developed, including a Hitchcockian murder mystery and a horror thrill ride. The idea of an interactive guide to breaking up was just too fun to pass on, though.

Reproducing this interactive concept within Flash was more difficult then Brett had originally anticipated, however. "Since video in Flash is an impossibility, we had to fake it. Through a use of Wildform's Flix, Adobe Premiere, and Adobe Photoshop, we were able to simulate this effect inside of Macromedia Flash. I think the results are exciting."

Break-Up Simulator stars Jessica Kademenos as the unfortunate girlfriend, Christin Klinger as the attractive roommate, and John Carmello as the pipe-smoking narrator. As an added bonus, Sean Owens, Jim Burkhart, Brett Bagenstose, and Gordon Holmes have returned to their sketch comedy roots to create kitsch cigarette ad parodies that follow each run through of the Simulator.
Related Links:

BreakUpSimulator.com

PHILADELPHIA, PA (October 11, 2000) - Neo-Pangea Founder Brett Bagenstose
invites you to view their latest effort, "Soul Survivor" at
http://www.neo-pangea.com. "Soul Survivor" parodies the CBS summertime
ratings whore "Survivor." However the back-stabbing truck drivers and
flamboyant corporate trainers have been replaced by zombies and classic
movie monsters.

You know the drill, every 3 days they meet at tribal council to vote a
member off. The final winner receives their eternal soul.free from the
shackles of oppression. The losers.guest spots on the Hollywood Squares.
Nate Trate stars as the arrogant, undermining host, John Carmello, Gordon
Holmes, Jen Lubas and Bob Trate portray the dreaded Zombie Alliance while
Sean Owens, Brett Bagenstose, Cristen Klinger and Cindy Odem take roles as
the Movie Monster Tribe.

The cast and crew of "Soul Survivor" have been working together since 1992.
Their early efforts consisted mainly of low-budget horror flicks and sketch
comedy. In 1993 they were given the opportunity to shine in their own
broadcast cable sketch comedy program, "The Recliners." Drawing inspiration
from "The Kids in the Hall," the Recliners were proud to win two consecutive
local Cable Ace Awards in their 1993 and 1994 seasons. After a 6 year
sabbatical, the troupe reunited to create "The Big Fun Show!" This short
animation project won the troupe an honorable mention in the 2000 Playboy
Animation Contest. And, in September of 2000 they received the adulation
teenage boys worldwide have dreamed about, their troupe name appearing
within the pages of Playboy magazine.

Much like their previous efforts, "Soul Survivor" was an example of guerilla
filmmaking at it's purest. Facing a Tuesday deadline, the short was
conceptualized on Wednesday, a script finalized on Friday, shot on Saturday
and Sunday, and scored and edited on Monday. Their method of utilizing
improvisational comedy interspersed within the boundaries of the scripted
treatment usually brings out the best in all of the participants.

In the future, the cast and crew have set many goals. One of them being
longer deadlines.

By Charles J. Adams III

For whatever reasons, and they are - for someone such as I - all the good reasons, the cinematic vogue these days seems to be on the spooky side. The list of horror (and some of them horrible) films over the last few months and for the foreseeable future (watch for "Sleepy Hollow" in November) is long.

And, if Lady Luck crooks a beckoning finger on a 1995 Wilson High School graduate, that list may someday include a movie entitled "Gabriel 6."

Brett Bagenstose is an aspiring filmmaker who has nibbled at the buffet of the big time and is hungry to take his place at its banquet table.

A graduate of the Temple University Film and Media Arts program, the recipient of two Cable Ace Awards for Public Broadcasting, the exhibitor of short films in festivals around the world, Bagenstose has put his heart and soul into his "Gabriel 6" project.

And while the film has been screened in such places as Tokyo and New York and has earned favorable reviews, Bagenstose's quest for success has not been uneventful.

He calls it, cautiously, the curse.

"Our film," he told me, "is about the end of the world, brought on by one man who thinks he's sent by god to destroy one-third of the population. He sees demons and such, and at the end of the film, the cop who was supposed to stop him ends up working for the devil. That's the plot."

And, what's the curse?

"Well, the actual curse began two nights before our first film shoot in December 1998. We were buying groceries and supplies to feed the crew and to make fake blood. We were in the aisle with the fake blood and when I turned around, I noticed the strangest thing. About a fourth of the aisle behind me was bare, except for one, single candle sitting in the center of the shelf."

"I picked up that candle, and printed on it was St. Michael (the angel, shown with angel wings and fighting off an attack from a demonic angel with his sword). Well, that isn't terribly spooky until you realize that the cop in our movie who was to defend the world against Gabriel was named Michael! And that script was written eight months before that shopping trip."

"Even stranger, we went to the register and paid for the supplies. Our total change turned out to be $6.66 - the 'number of the beast.'"

"On the way home from the market, we had to stop for a train. As it passed in front of us, it started to slow down. The train came to a stop and in front of us was a railroad car carrying corrosive materials. Spray-painted on the car was a huge, red head of a devil."

Bagenstose noted several other quirky incidents that played out as the movie was filmed.

While the crew was filming in Philadelphia, strange sounds were heard on the set. At one point, a total of five crew members reported the same health problems at the same time.

During a shoot in Perry County, they were forced to work in 40-degree temperatures because the heater in the barn-turned-sound stage would not work.

And then, there was a little mechanical problem Bagenstose faced while on the way home from that Perry County filming.

"My car simply turned itself off as I was driving it," he said. "It didn't work for six days. No mechanic had any idea what was wrong with it. But on the sixth day, it started working again!".

A curse of coincidences?

As we say here at the Berks the Bizarre desk, "It makes you wonder!"
